Carmela Bar-Noy
Commissioner of Lions Israel between the years 2001-2002
Slogan: “Look around and help”
Born in Iraq. Immigrated to Israel at the age of two months. grew up and was educated in Tel Aviv.
She was married to the late Dov Bar-Noy, Mishna Rishon and M.M. Hanitziv. Mother of Edua and Anbal,
and grandmother of five grandchildren. Profession: computer graphics.
Following a conversation with Israel Defense Forces Rachel Herzog, Carmela Bar-Noy joined in 1989
The Lions Club “Aboka” – a club for women only, and was a founding member at the time
The transition of the club from the Lionesses, to companies with equal rights in the ranks of the Lionesses.
In 1995, she was elected as the president of the “Avoca” club and put the club’s members in charge,
the issue of drugs in the city, in cooperation with the “National Council for the War on Drugs” and the Petah Tikva municipality.
After finishing her year as president of the club, she continued her activity there, as well as in the commission
Lions Israel, with the help of serving commissioners:
Yitzhak Harel (as chairman of the Committee to War on Drugs – a national project)
Rachel Herzog (commission spokeswoman and cabinet member, in charge of productions)
Moti Nagor (assistance to the Commissioner in various committees)
Ezra Shamir (member of the committee for the 1940s celebrations for Lions Israel, and supervisor of
the publications)
Shmuel Sandler (Commissioner Commissioner, in charge of publishing symbols and newspapers).
Over the years, it led to a breakthrough and a change in the graphic design of the brochures,
The flags and symbols of Israel Lions.
In 1998 she was elected to the Israel Lions Cabinet and in 2001, at the World Conference
In Indianapolis in the USA, she was certified as a Lions Israel commissioner, as a second woman commissioner.
Her activities as a commissioner:
The slogan chosen by Carmela – “Look around and help”, was integrated with the global slogan
“At our service”. We look around us to see those who need us and reach out to them
our hands for help and feel that “we are at your service” – to expand the mind, to enlighten and to ignite
The light, in a place where it is not present, to be used as lighting the beacon of volunteering in society
the Israeli one.
In this spirit, actions were taken during the year to increase the relationship with the members of the Lions
In Israel through:
– Direct mail: distribution of material on the activities of the Cabinet and the Commission, directly to members
The Lions in Israel.
– Preparation of an ID card for Israel Lions members, which serves as a lever for recruitment
New members and to expand knowledge about Lions Israel.
– Expansion of the website, which allows the commission and the clubs to present the
their activities for the information of the members. The operators went through a special workshop, which qualified
them for that.
– Operation on traffic accidents: distribution of training material at gas stations,
including eye exams.
– The Lions Forest was re-bloomed thanks to over 300 trees,
that were purchased and planted in the forest.
– Establishing a circle of social leaders, from among whom its future leadership was chosen
of Israel Lions. To this end, Lions Israel received special funding from Lions International,
which encourages leadership training. Some of the course graduates became commissioners, or candidates
For the Commission: Gary Roth, Panina Efrati, Meir Porat, Yaron Goldman, Osama Alimi,
Shimshon Maron and Marcel Friedman.
The “Social Leaders” project, headed by Dr. Danny Shor, represented the Lions organization
at the European Forum in Belgium.
– Israel Lions regulations were approved.
– Section 46 was accepted to exempt tax from donations.
– A blood donation van was purchased for the MDA.
– Special workshops were held for the women of the Israel Lions, to expand knowledge, and the lady
The awareness among women to apply to head the Lions Commission in Israel.
– At the forum in Portugal in 2001, a special Israeli issue was chosen for discussion – the establishment
Lions Israel College in the course of “Mediation, Conciliation and Arbitration”.
– At the Person of the Year and Men of Excellence ceremony, the following men of excellence were chosen: Ms.
Michal Modai – for her activities for society and the state; Rabbi General Shaul Mofaz –
for his service for the country, the defense of the people and society; Prof. Oded Abramsky –
for his personal excellence and his contribution to science and medicine.
After her role as commissioner ended, Carmela continued her activities:
* Establishment of the Rosh Ha’Ain Lions Club.
* Newspaper production, logo design.
* Chairman of the Person of the Year and Prodigy Committee, Chairman of the National Conference, Chairman of the Liaison Committee
Among the members of the Lions.
* Bringing the procedures file to a renewed discussion at Lions Israel, after ten years
in which we did not discuss the subject.
* Preservation of the history of Israel Lions: interview of the former commissioners, compilation
Material and its preparation including photos, in preparation for publishing a book on the subject.
* Preparation of the file of resolutions of the national conferences of Lions Israel, and its update
every year
* Submission of Lions Israel to the President’s letter to the volunteer.
* Membership in the committee to select the volunteer of the year at the president’s house.
* Activity in the National Council for Volunteering, membership in the executive committee and treasurer
the council.
For her activities on behalf of Lions Israel, Carmela received many awards and certificates of appreciation,
Among them are also world presidents.
Two articles about its activities were published in the International Lions brochures: on the subject of the mobile phone
And regarding the president’s letter to the volunteer.
An article was published in the “Lasha” newspaper, in the year of her commission.
