Ezra Shamir
Israel Lions Commissioner between 1999-2000
His motto: “To serve us – for a better future” – 2000
Ezra Shamir was born in Iraq in 1948 and immigrated to Israel in 1951. Married to Rina, father of three and grandfather of two granddaughters. He grew up and was educated in Ramat Gan, where he attended elementary school and high school. He served as an officer in the IDF and retired from the reserves with the rank of major.
Has a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration and a master’s degree in public policy and budgeting. He worked at Bank Leumi for about 32 years, during which he had an extensive managerial career.
Today, the owner of a private company for accompanying investments and managing the family’s finances – “Family Family Ltd.”
He was first exposed to Lyons in 1991 through his friend Moti Nagor, a member of the Kfar Saba club. In 1993, together with other friends, he founded the Ramat Gan Lions Club and served as its first president. The establishment process was accompanied by former commissioner Shimshon Zelbiger
Activities as President of the Ramat Gan Club:
* A solidifying social activity, the purpose of which is to connect the club members to the Lionist idea.
Car trips, gatherings at homes and holiday parties were held.
* Action to expand the rows.
* Establishing contact with the municipality and the welfare division for the purpose of locating places for assistance and activity
voluntary.
* Ride home operation for Ramat Gan soldiers. The club members drove home, on Fridays,
Soldiers from Gaha junctions, Kfar Maccabiah, Ayalon Mall and more, in cars with stickers on them
The Lions badges, and even gave each hitchhiker a sweet gift.
His activities at the Commission, before being elected as Commissioner:
* Chairman of Azor and Treasurer of the Commission, during the time of Netzelash Yisrael Nocham.
* Chairman of the committee for the establishment of clubs, during the time of Netzelash Eli Ben-Yaakov and Rachel Herzog.
* Elected to the cabinet in 1998, and started operating in the field of the mobile blood donation project
(see a separate chapter).
At the world conference, held in San Diego in the USA in 1999, Ezra Shamir was ordained
As Commissioner of the Lions in Israel.
His activity as commissioner:
Ezra Shamir’s first action as commissioner was to provide aid to earthquake victims

* 40th anniversary celebrations for Lions Israel:
Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Israel Lions was the main event in 2000. For this purpose, a central committee was established, headed by the former commissioner Kaduri Dahan, which produced an event in which the activities of the Lions and its clubs were noted, and Jerusalem was noted as a model city. The celebrations praised the contribution of the founders of the organization and their successors in Israel and saluted 40 years of work for the community.
Teddy Kolek, who was one of the founders of the organization, participated in the ceremony and even wrote a special letter to the members of the Lions.
The event was attended by delegations and guests from around the world: Germany, India, Spain, Italy, USA, Turkey and more.
In preparation for the event, the Israel Post issued a souvenir sheet with a special stamp.
As part of the celebrations, which were held in the nation’s buildings in Jerusalem, exemplary signs were awarded to the city of Jerusalem – as the exemplary city and as a symbol of the vision of understanding between the nations; To General Yossi Peled – for the actions in the field of security; To Professor Shobha Weiss – for his contribution to strengthening the values of democracy in Israel.
Today, Ezra Shamir continues to contribute to Lions, among other things as the chairman of the Committee for Quality and Ethics and as an event moderator.
